Support · Hope · Information · Advocacy
Since 1987,
Institute for Families has offered counseling and support
to families who are facing the devastating diagnosis of cancer or
other diseases that may impact vision in their child. Institute
for Families is there for every member of the family during the
many difficult days, weeks and months of treatment.
Through multilingual
consultation and family therapy, we provide skilled professional
assistance to enable a family to cope with the news that their child
has a serious diagnosis. Families in crisis need information and
many times do not know where to find it. We publish journal articles,
books, videos, newsletters and training materials all designed to
provide easy to understand suggestions and coping strategies.
In addition
to helping families, Institute for Families provides in-service
training programs for physicians, medical students and other healthcare
professionals. Our goal is to enhance their understanding of the
issues affecting families and to improve their communication with
patients in need of emotional support.
Institute
for Families is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All of
our services are provided at no cost to families and professionals,
with funding provided by private donations. No federal funding is
given.
